OBIT:

Mrs. Nancy C Newell, relict of Robert T. Newell, died at the home of her son, J. C. Newell, in Fremont Monday night at midnight, aged 77 years, 4 months and 1 day. The funeral took place at the M. E. Church yesterday morning at 10:30, Rev Geo Filmer, of Harvey, preaching the sermon, and interment was made in the Cedar Township Cemetery beside the husband, who passed away in October.

Mrs. Newell had been in perfect health up to the evening of her death, when she was stricken with paralysis about 7 o'clock and died at midnight without regaining consciousness. The news of her demise was a profound shock to the community and expressions of sorrow are heard from everyone on the passing away of this most lovable woman.

Nancy Canon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James F. Canon, was born at Uniontown, PA on September 25, 1836 and came to Iowa with her parents in 1857, and located in Fremont, which has been her home since, except two years spent at Martinsburg, IA. She was married at her home in Fremont on September 27, 1870 to Robert T Newell, who died on October 16, 1913. This union was blessed with 3 children, one dying in infancy, the surviving ones being J. C. and E. H. Newell of Fremont.

She is also survived by 4 sisters, Mrs. Jesse Keith of Audubon, Mrs. Frank Smith of Chariton, Mrs D. H. Dinsmore and Sarah Canon of Fremont and 4 grandchildren.

The deceased was a steadfast member of the Presbyterian Church and was a regular attendant at the services until the church here was closed when she worshiped with other congregations, but did not transfer her membership as she desired to die as she had lived, in the Presbyterian faith. She was also a member of the Eastern Star Lodge and for many years held the office of treasurer of the institution. She was a loyal member and a regular attendant at the meetings.

Mrs. Newell was a home-loving woman and a Christian. She was as near a model woman as it is possible to be. She was adored by her children and loved by her friends and nothing that we could write would do justice to the beautiful character of this noble woman. Her children were firmly grounded in the principles of honor, virtue and integrity. Her ambitions, sacrifices and toil were centered in the home and there she was richly repaid in love for her efforts for the loved ones. She was faithful, pure and true in every relation in life and no more devoted follower in His service did God ever call home.

Her multitude of friends in this community will mourn the loss of this grand character and tender their deepest sympathy to the bereaved.
