Dorothy Helen Robbins Dowgray, 96, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2018 at Villa St. Francis Catholic Care Center in Olathe, Kansas.
Dorothy was born on May 7, 1922 in Kansas City, Missouri to Lawrence Winslow Robbins and Helen Glascock Robbins.
She graduated from Central High School in Kansas City in 1938. Dorothy’s professional career began as the executive secretary to the president of Southeast State Bank in Kansas City, and culminated with her service to Second Presbyterian Church for 18 years, starting as finance secretary and retiring in 1991 after 15 years as business administrator. Dorothy was fiercely devoted to her family, church and community, serving as a volunteer to many nonprofit organizations throughout her life and in numerous committee and leadership positions with the church. Always pragmatic, gracious, generous and kind, Dorothy was much beloved by her family and friends.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; by her six siblings and their spouses, Lawrence and Annabelle Robbins, Gilbert and Louise Celeste Robbins Clardy, Edwin and Belva Robbins, Grenville and Shirley Robbins, Vincent and Mary Robbins, and Orville and Edith Ruth Robbins Burtis; by the father of her children John Gray Laird Dowgray Jr.; and by her son John Gray Laird Dowgray III.
She is survived by her daughter Laurie Louise Dowgray (Milburn) McCormack and son-in-law Dennis William McCormack; by daughter-in-law Debi Ann Denzer Dowgray; by grandchildren Erin Elizabeth Dowgray Collins (Brett Collins), Tracy Marie Milburn (Steve Tabor), Daniel Ryan McCormack, Stacey Diane Dowgray (Ian Vera), Alison Lee Milburn, Connor Michael McCormack, Sean Joseph Dowgray (Ida Mullaart), Scott James McCormack and Melanie Rose McCormack; by great grandchildren Jackson Colton Tabor, Charleigh Justina Collins, Grayson Laird O’Neal Collins and Easton Lee Tabor; and by numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Dorothy will be held at Second Presbyterian Church, 318 East 55th Street, Kansas City, Missouri, on January 19, 2019 at 3 p.m., with visitation preceding at 2 p.m. Interment of her ashes will occur on the church grounds immediately following the service and at a private ceremony at Elmwood Cemetery on Sunday July 20.
