He attended West Pike Schools and graduated from Payson High School in 1967. After graduating he joined the Army, serving in Germany and Korea. After serving in the Army he attended Quincy Tech School for Diesel Mechanics and then went on to work for Koeller Farms for over 30 years until his retirement. George loved to hunt for arrowheads and Indian artifacts, and also enjoyed collecting toy tractors. One of his favorite toys in his collection was a Stieger that he farmed with for many years. George was a Cardinal fan, and was a longtime member of the Barry American Legion Post #222.
George is survived by two brothers; Harvey (Joyce) Harrison of Hannibal, MO and Harry (Roberta) Harrison of Dayton, OH; three sisters; Mary (Jerry) Schulz of rural Barry, Linda (Barry) House of Chatham, IL and Rosette (John) Lister of Barry. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; Shirley Sturtevant, Brenda Borrowman and Paula Billings and a brother, Gerald Harrison.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M., Saturday, January 5, 2019 at the Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry with Greg Carr and J.D. Briscoe officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 12:00 P.M. prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will be at Shearer Cemetery near New Canton following the service with graveside military rites conducted by the Barry American Legion Post #222 and the Army Honor Guard. Memorials are suggested to the Barry American Legion or Shearer Cemetery. The Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry is handling the arrangements.
