Mrs. Shirley M. Buchanan, 90, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2018 at Mountain Valley Hospice surrounded by her family. Born in Amsterdam, New York on October 13, 1928 to the late Louis and Laura (Bant) Blunck, she lived most of her life in the Village of Hagaman and was a graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School.

Shirley was first employed by the Montgomery County Board of Elections in Fonda, and went on to work for the United States Postal Service as Post Master for the Village of Hagaman until she retired on October 27, 1990. Shirley was a devoted member of the Calvary Reformed Church in Hagaman where she was an elder and served on many committees. She was a member of the New York State Saddle Horse Association, Rugmakers Riding Club, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Shirley enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, and she loved spending time with her family; especially her grandchildren.

On June 26, 1948, she was united in marriage to Lauren R. Buchanan, who passed away on January 6, 1994. She was also predeceased by her brother, John Blunck and her sister, Beverly Ruzycky.

Her loving family includes her son, Dwight L. Buchanan and his wife Rosemary of the Town of Florida; her daughter, Diane L. (Jeff Blake) Sickler of Scotia; four grandchildren, Darril Buchanan, Mariah Sickler, Robert (Heather) Sickler and Zandra (Josh) Baker; four great grandchildren, Emma, Benjamin and twin great grandchildren, Robert and Elliot; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Interment will follow in the Hagaman Mills Cemetery in Hagaman, New York.
