Funeral services for Rebecca Hillhouse Denning will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home with Dr. John Temple officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
Becky Denning, age 75, passed away Thursday, December 27, 2018, after a long illness. A native Mississippian, Becky had resided in Maryland for many years, and was living in Columbia, Maryland, at the time of her death.
For most of her life, Becky was an avid reader and collector of books, especially writings on feminism, Christianity, Bible studies, and detective novels. She also loved living near the water. For a number of years, she and her husband, Bob, owned a large waterfront property in southern Maryland, where they watched the seasons change on the Wicomico River, and followed a family of osprey as they raised generations of chicks in a nest outside their kitchen windows. In later years, as her health declined, Becky enjoyed talking to, and spending time with, her family, especially her beloved grandsons, Taylor and Ben.
Becky was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Jewel Hillhouse; her brother, Johnny Hillhouse; and her sister, Janice Addy.
She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 36 years, Bob Denning; her son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Beth Massey; two grandsons, Taylor Denning and Ben Massey; nephews Dustin Addy, Johnny Hillhouse, and David Earl Hillhouse; nieces Teresa Maddox and Staci Hillhouse; and numerous other relations.
Becky suffered greatly for many years from rheumatoid arthritis. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, her family would be grateful for contributions made to the Arthritis Foundation. Memorial gifts can be made online at www.arthritis.org.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home.
