She was married on July 26, 1843, to Eli Townsend, in Morrow County, Ohio, in the Friends Church, of which she has always been a member. Eight Children were born to them: seven sons and one daughter, all of whom servive her except one son. There are thirty-three grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren. They moved to Warren County Iowa, in 1863. In 1879, Eli Townsend died and for almost thirty years, Abigail has lived with her son Eli Wood Townsend, moving to Decatur, Iowa in 1887, where she has since resided. She has been a good and kind mother and faithful Christian.
A few days before her death, she told of her bright, happy conversion in the long ago. Since her residence in Decatur, she has been a faithful attendant and supporter of the Methodist Church. For many years, she taught a class in the Sunday School.
The funeral was held from the Methodist Church in Decatur, Friday at 1:00 P.M., the sermon being preached by the Reverend J. L. Boyd, pastor of the Methodist Church of Leon, Iowa. Saturday morning, the body was taken to Des Moines, Iowa and, with appropriate services, was interred in the Glendale Cemetery. The body of her husband will be removed from the Sandyville Cemetery and placed beside that of his companion, where together they will await the resurrection of the just.
Two sons, from a distance, were Ernest Wood Townsend, of Cherokee, Iowa, and Edwin L. Townsend, of Le Mars, Iowa, were in attendance at the funeral.
