PATTERSON. -- In Riverdale, Oct. 30, 1886, of pneumonia, Alexander Patterson, aged 61 years, 10 months and 13 days.
The deceased was born in Halbath, Fifeshire, Scotland, and joined the Church in his native country in 1847, emigrating to the States in 1848, and continued his journey to Utah in 1851, where he settled in Salt Lake City and resided there until the autumn of 1853, when he made a trip to Iron County on a mission of pioneering. Having successfully and honorably acquitted himself there, he removed to Riverdale in Weber County, in the spring of 1856, being one of the first settlers of that place. He continued to reside in this settlement until his death, being about the oldest resident there. In all his works he was honest, upright and respected, always on hand when called upon to labor in the interests of the Church of God. He was for a time a home missionary in the Weber Stake of Zion. Which position he honorably filled. He was a good and faithful father, and is mourned by a wife and twelve children, six sons and six daughters all of whom witnessed their father close his eyes peacefully in death.
At the funeral Elders D.M. Stuart, David S. Cook, D.H. Peery, Gilbert Belnap, and W.G. Child, offered words of consolation to the bereaved, and pointed to the excellent life example of the deceased.
