Janie Martindale Pace 1930 – 2018

Janie Martindale Pace passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday December 22, 2018. She was born on May 16, 1930, in Jasper, to A.F. (Frank) & Maude Smith Martindale, she was the youngest of 6 children. She was a loyal Christian and entirely dedicated to her family, friends and community. Janie met her true love, Robert C. Pace, Jr., after his return from World War II. They married on May 22, 1948, in Jasper, where they made their home and raised their family. Janie and Robert were married for 64 years at the time of Robert’s death. She is survived by children Carol Pace of Rowlett, Connie Wester and husband Michael of Carthage, Cindy Barmore of Round Rock, Jo Thomas and husband Mike of Woodville, Jane Walthall and husband Tim of Lumberton, Frank Pace and wife Joan of Jasper, John Pace and wife Nancy of Jasper, 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and numerous family members. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, parents Frank & Maude Martindale, sisters Nuel Martin and Frances Glover, and brothers Wilmer Martindale, H.E. Blue Martindale and Luke Martindale.

Janie was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 291, Pilot Club of Jasper, Jasper Womens Civic Club, and Federation of Insurance Women of East Texas. She was an avid baker and cook and was a contestant and finalist in the 1969 Pilsbury bake-off in Atlanta, Georgia, with her Choco-Chewy Scotch Bars. She was an astute business woman, ahead of her time for a female in rural East Texas in the 1960’s, she started Pace Insurance Agency, later partnering and becoming Pace-Yeary Insurance Agency, which successfully grew and evolved into First Insurance Services. Janie was a strong woman that always was a proper lady.

A memorial service will be held on Thurday, December 27, 2018 at 10:30 am at First United Methodist Church with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The First United Methodist Church, Gideons International or the charity of your choice.
