Rickey L. Phillips, 70, Mentone, and formerly of Delphi, passed away at 3:20 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw.

He was born on Jan. 10, 1948, in Lafayette, to John and Evaleen (Kauffman) Phillips.

He married Martha L. Bozek on March 8, 1975, in La Porte. She survives.

He was a teacher for the Tippecanoe Valley School Corp. at the high school, middle school, Akron and Mentone for many years. He also taught driver’s training. Before Valley, he taught for one year in La Porte, where he met his wife.

He was a Delphi High School graduate in 1966. He then furthered his education, attaining his degree from Purdue University and his master’s from Eastern Michigan University. He volunteered for the Mentone EMTs. He was a member of the Mentone Lions Club, the Mentone Masonic Lodge No. 576 and the Scottish Rite of Indianapolis. He enjoyed muzzleloading and rifle shooting along with hunting and reading about history. He was also fond of traveling.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Phillips, Mentone; his daughters, Mindy Phillips, Schaumburg, Ill., Jamie Phillips, Warsaw, and Johnna and husband Matt Stone, Indianapolis; his grandchildren, Jenna, Benjamin and Nathaniel; his sister, Patricia Abbott, Delphi; and his brother, Lloyd and wife Marcia Phillips, Lafayette.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Thelma Stacy, Jean Martin, Majorie Lavendure and Paul Phillips.
