I appreciate the privilege of writing an obituary for one I have known and loved for thirty-six years.
Mrs. Mary Robertson, wife of James Robertson was born in Perry county, Mo.,Dec. 27, 1832, and was partly raised there. Then she moved to Arkansas, where she was married in 1852. She moved to Texas with her husband and three children in 1857, leaving behind a little grave, and located three miles east of Little Elm, where she lived until six months ago, when she moved to Aubrey.
She bravely endured the hardships of a frontier life and helped to pave the way to civilization. Her home sheltered many and the doors were opened to wayfarers and strangers, where they found a hospitable welcome and a haven of rest.
She united with the Christian church in 1863 or 64 at old Cottonwood church and was baptized by Bro. Jasper. She was a faithful consistent Christian and her daily life had an elevating influence on all with whom she was associated.
Her health failed in 1878, and she was a patient sufferer until God claimed her for his own on Feby. 13, 1907, and He could say of her, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant; enter, thou into the joy of the Lord."
She had lost four children since coming to Texas; two infants, Allen and Louiza, a married daughter, Mrs. Mattie Price, who died Nov. 10, 1893 and her youngest son, James Robertson Jr., who died Feb. 19, 1900. They were waiting on the other shore to welcome the precious mother.
She leaves behind a husband and the following children: Mesdames Julia Holmes and Ellen Pearson of Aubrey, Mrs. Ora Owens of Denton, Mrs. Cora Louder of Roscoe, Mrs. Josie Thomas of Decatur, Messrs Henderson and Billy Robertson who live near the old home. All are children to be proud of, every one honorable, useful citizens.
Besides the family of fourteen children, she had had 50 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.
