William was married to Bessie Ann Shields.William died at home, North 4th Street, in Willows. He lived there for 30 years after moving from Covelo in Mendocino Co CA. He died at 72 1/2 yrs old. He was a retired farmer at his death. At one time he worked and lived on the Spaulding Ranch. His brother Luke also worked there. He and Bessie Ann had six children,the sixth died at birth(Bessie died also.) All of the children were born in Covelo. He raised his children himself, after his wife Bessie Ann died. Myrtie was the oldest daughter and helped with the younger children. The children's names all started with "M".
