"Verda "Bea" Wedel, 87, died Thursday, November 15, 2018 at Schowalter Villa in Hesston, Kansas.
She was born April 22, 1931 at Montezuma, Kansas, the daughter of Adam James and Edna Mae Schmidt. On May 27, 1951 she married Kenneth L. Wedel at Montezuma. She was a longtime Meade County resident where she owned and operated Schmidt Packing Co. with her husband Kenneth and Bea's Antiques.
She attended Valley View Bible Church in Cimarron. She was an avid china painter and enjoyed going to auctions and floral arranging.
Survivors include: her son, Scott Wedel and wife Diana, Lowell, Arkansas; 2 daughters, Kendra Dowell and husband David, Fowler and Tracy Hilker and husband Steve, Cimarron; 2 sisters, Ada Cranston, Lonoke, Arkansas and Grace Becker and husband Errol, Halstead, Kansas; 6 grandchildren, Michael Wedel and Jason Wedel, Joshua Dowell and wife Sarah and Dylan Dowell and wife Amanda and Alleah Heise and husband Dan and Adam Hilker and wife Hannah; 6 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenneth on March 13, 2009, a brother, James Schmidt and 2 sisters, Isobel Stein and Emma Becker.
Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Monday, November 19, 2018 at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City with Pastor Ron Wedel officiating. Burial will follow in the Cimarron Cemetery, Cimarron. Visitation will be Sunday, November 18, 2018 from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Ziegler Funeral Chapel in Cimarron.
