Inez Bailey, 93, of Matador passed away on Sunday, May 20, 2007, at University Medical Center, in Lubbock.
The daughter of
W.M. and Minnie Clifton, Inez was born Feb. 26, 1914, in Chactaw County, Okla. The family moved to the Whiteflat Community in Motley County in 1927. She graduated from Whiteflat High School in 1933 where she excelled in all sports. Inez married Welton G. Bailey in 1934 in Dickens. They resided at Bird Ranch and Whiteflat before moving to Matador in 1948. Inez was retired from General Telephone Company of the Southwest. She was the last generation of the "Number Please" telephone operators. She began working for the telephone company in Matador in 1947 and also worked in Level-land, Brownfield, and Brownwood. Inez was actively involved in her children's school activities and always enjoyed visiting with her friends and family. She was a member of the Eastern Star in Matador and a Baptist.
Mrs. Bailey was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister, and her oldest grandchild, Duke Hamm.
She is survived by her daughter, Marlene Hamm and husband Dick; her son, Ronald Bailey and wife Kay, all of Matador; six grandchildren, David Hamm, Cindy Everett, Sandra Hamm, Lance Bailey, Kevin Bailey, and Andrea Bailey; and ten great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are scheduled for Wednesday at
1:30 p.m. under the direction ofSeigler Funeral Home of Matador. Family and friends will meet at Seigler Funeral Home at 1:30
p.m. and travel in a processionto the Whiteflat Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials are made to the Motley County Senior Citizen's Center, Matador, Texas 79244.
