Simon C. (Sam) Edwards, 82, former Lafayette police chief and water works superintendent, died Saturday at 9:45 p.m. at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Otto Bossung, 115 Chauncey Street. West Lafayette. Mr. Edwards was a native of Boone County, near Advance, and came to this community in 1898. He was associated with the old Lafayette Gas, Electric and Street Railway company until 1913, when he went to the Wolever Electric company. Mr. Edwards helped to build the streetcar line to the Soldiers' home. During the former Teal city administration, Mr. Edwards served as chief of police approximately two and one-half years then served as superintendent of the Lafayette water works system for the remainder of the term. He was active in Republican party activities and also served as a member of the Tippecanoe County council. In .1895 he was married to Ella Royal, who died in 1934. Mr. Edwards was a member of St. Boniface church, Elks lodge No. 143, Eagles lodge No. 347 and the Druids lodge, all of Lafayette. Survivors include the daughter, Mrs. Bossung, at whose home he died, a brother, Joe of here; two sisters, Mrs. Oliver Henderson, R. 2, and Mrs. Charges Bausman of here.
