Shirley Dale York, 93, of Hoopeston, passed away at 6:13 p.m. Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at Carle Hoopeston Regional Health Center.

Mr. York was born on February 4, 1925, in Hoopeston, the son of John and Nora (Murphy) York. He married Patricia Keith on September 6, 1953, in Hoopeston. She survives.

He is also survived by three sons- John “Dale” (Olga) York of Hoopeston, Don (Michelle) York of Hoopeston and Steve (Jennifer) York of Grant Park; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister- Amy Howk.

Shirley graduated from John Greer High School and later enlisted in the United States Army, where he served from 1943 to 1946. He worked for several years as an electronic technician, starting at TRW and retiring from Schumacher’s, in 1995. He was a member of the Hoopeston American Legion Post #384. Shirley enjoyed recording music, reading, going to the library and spending time with his wife Patricia. He also loved building and working on electronics and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

A Celebration of Shirley Dale York’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 10, 2018, at Blurton Funeral Home, 309 E. Washington St. Hoopeston, with Pastor Ken Cameron officiating. He will be laid to rest following the services in Floral Hill Cemetery, with full military honors conducted by the Hoopeston American Legion Post #384. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Danville Alliance Church or to the Hoopeston Public Library. The family has entrusted the Blurton Funeral Home to assist them in honoring Mr. York’s life.
