Jason's obituary read: "Jason F. Spencer departed this life July 20, 1937, at the age of 81 years and 3 months. When quite young, he came to this state with his parents Ichabod and Julie Ann Spencer.

On April 10, 1879 he was united in marriage to Laura B. Martin. This union were born twelve children, five of which preceded him in death. Those left to mourn his departure are the faithful wife and children namely: Mrs. S. F. Hantz, Mrs. M. A. Watts, J. O. Spencer of Oblong, Illinois, Mrs. F. E. Goff of Lawrenceville, Illinois, Mrs. B. M. Denton of Toledo, Illinois, G. W. Spencer of Mattoon, Illinois, Mrs. Ola Kerner of Alberta Canada and 39 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 1 half brother S. D. Spencer of Vincennes, Indiana, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at the Berlin Church with Rev. W. R. Buckner officiating interment was made in Oblong Cemetery."
