A celebration of the life of James H. "Jim" Luers, 77, is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, July 29, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Riverton with the Rev. Magruder officiating.

He died July 24, 2006, at his home in Riverton after a courageous battle.

Born Oct. 31, 1928, in Midwest to Diedrich G. and Anna Maria Catharine (Woltermann) Luers, his family moved to Riverton a year later. He attended Riverton schools, graduating in 1946 from Riverton High School.

On June 1, 1947, he married Florence V. Freese, and the couple had three of the "best kids in the world."

A truck driver for many years working for Woodward Trucking and hauling around the state, he opened Jim's Electric in 1953 and later owned Wind River Electric.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and held a multitude of positions, including chairman, vice chairman, trustee, elder, Finance Committee, Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent and president of the Lutheran Layman's League.

He enjoyed four-wheeling, fishing, hunting, camping and being his his family and friends. He always had a song in his heart and a big smile on his face.

Survivors include his wife of Riverton; sons Jim Jr. and Don and their wives of Riverton; a daughter, Vickie Laymon and her husband of Loveland, Colo.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Ralph, Frank, Gus, George and Alfred; and three sisters, Mabel, Helen Calvert-Weisz and Anna Woodward.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.

Services are under the direction of Davis Funeral Home of Riverton.
