Norma Jean Smith, age 79, of Richlands, VA passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands, VA.

Norma was born on Horton Ridge, near Raven, VA and was the daughter of the late Earl and Exie Ellen Newberry Wells of Russell County, VA. She was a class of 1956 graduate of Richlands High School. Norma was a former employee of Eastern Isles and was a senior friend of the Richlands Good Samaritan Food Pantry. She attended the Friendly Chapel Church on Smith Ridge and was lifelong resident of the Richlands area.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Rufus Smith; stepmother, Bertha Brown Wells; two sisters, June Arms and Doris Whitt; one brother, Hershel Wells; and Delci Rimmer, who raised Norma from the age of 9 years old.

She is survived by:

Graveside services for Norma Jean Smith will be conducted on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, VA with Rev. Dwight Eads and Shaun Ward officiating. Interment will follow. Pallbearers will be: Shawn VanDyke, Shaun Ward, Austin Ward, Sandy Richardson, Bill Richardson and Will Richardson. Anyone wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at Mausoleum #4 at Greenhills Memory Gardens. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Friendly Chapel Church; 1656 Smith Ridge Rd; Jewell Ridge, VA 24622 or Richlands Good Samaritan Food Pantry; 106 Veterans Dr; Richlands, VA 24641.
