Bernis Boyatt Burk, age 97 of Norwood, OH, formerly of Scott County, TN, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2019 at her home with her family by her side.

Bernis was born February 15, 1922 in Bell County, Kentucky to the late Lawrence and Julia Sweet Boyatt. She was a member of the Bethalonia Baptist Church and enjoyed listening to good preaching and gospel music.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Ovia Burk; brothers: Woodrow, Laudie, Donald, Arnold, Bernard, infants Johnny and James; sisters: Edith, Reba and Margaret Pauline (who died young); two daughters: Winnie Faye Burk and Barbara Jean Burk; one grandson: Kenneth Ray Gilreath; and two great grandsons: Kenneth Lee and Ezekiel Gilreath.

Bernis is survived by her son: Norman Lee Burk of Oneida; daughter: Murlene Burk Brown of Norwood, OH; and one brother: Caney Boyatt of Oneida; six grandchildren: Mary Burk Hamby and husband Steve, Jeffrey Gilreath and wife Cleta, Nathaniel Burk and wife Kim, Matthew Burk and wife Nikki, Tijuana Brown Patton and husband Jeff, Jennifer Burk Goodman and husband Tony; and Patricia Gilreath wife of grandson the late Kenneth Gilreath; nineteen great grandchildren: Amy Hartmann, Kimberly and Daniel Gilreath, Jordan and Staci Hamby, Jeffery Joe and Edward Patton, LaDonna and Jeffrey C. Gilreath, Dalton, Noah and Lily Goodman, Makayla Booth and Ovie Burk, Praylee, Destiny, Larissa, Jackson and Jacob Burk; great-great grandchildren: Dillan, Ceclia, Danny, Nevaeh, Angel, Bricelee, Brandon, Kenlee, LacyLee, Keegan, Cory, Jayden, Melissa, Sabrina, Kara, Kennedy, Shanelle, Javion, Maddilynn, Caiyson, Raelynn and Rylan; and many other relatives and friends.

Friends may visit with the Burk family on Friday, June 28, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel Jones & Son Funeral Home with Bro. Wayne King and Bro.

Keith Marcum officiating. Music will be provided by Steve and Mary Hamby.

Graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the West Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Jeffrey Joe Patton, Edward Patton, Daniel Gilreath, Tony Goodman, Dalton Goodman and Noah Goodman. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Matthew Burk, Jesse Burk, Luther Burk and Nathaniel Burk.
