Alfred Joseph Kosse was born in Cherokee County, Iowa, on May 21, 1931, to Bernard and Cecilia (Klunenberg). He lived in the Maryhill area until the family moved to Marcus in 1936. He graduated from Holy Name Catholic High School in 1952. He entered the United States Army, serving as a Communication Specialist in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on February 22, 1954.

Alfred met the love of his life, Beverly Wolf, and the two were married at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Le Mars, IA, on April 24, 1956. They farmed and raised their six children on the Kosse family farm southwest of Marcus for 51 years, before moving into town in 2007.

Al had a life-long passion for farming and John Deere tractors. In his free time he enjoyed playing cards, golfing, taking photos of his family, and cheering on the Chicago Cubs and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He was also well-known for his love of ice cream, and frequent outings to Wells Blue Bunny in Le Mars or Culver’s. Most important was his never-ending love and devotion for his wife and children, as well as his faith in God.

Alfred passed away at Heartland Care Center in Marcus on Sunday, October 7, 2018. He was 87. The family would like to thank the staff for the excellent care he received during his stay at Heartland. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Alvina, Angeline, Eleanor and Gregory.
