On a Saturday in 1858 a Rhea County, Tennessee, man sat down and wrote to a friend in Texas. As usual in letters written in those days he told of the good or bad health of the family and or mutual friends, then launched into news of the people of the county, many of whom it appears were wanting to move west, and some had done so. The letter continued: Adam Dunwoody died last Spring of dropsy of the chest and last Winter his mill and dam washed away. Last Spring Samuel fixed it up and ground corn for a few weeks and it washed away again. This fall it was rebuilt again and began grinding corn and another freshet came and washed out the old part of the dam, and now he wants to sell and Keith talks of buying him out. The old man sold to Samuel before he died.
