Obituary:

Sharon Kay Smith, 76, of Elgin, passed away on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at Grande Ronde Hospital. A Memorial Service will be held at the Elgin Stampede Hall on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 2:00pm. Casual Dress is preferred.

Sharon was born on August 23, 1941, in La Grande, Oregon to Lucian “Louis” and Verna (Townsend) Case. She resided in Heppner and Elgin Oregon. She graduated from Heppner High School and then attended Boise Business College. She married George Smith on August 10, 1962.

Sharon was a secretary for Crippens Stud Mill, bookkeeper for Elgin Auto Parts, and as a noon aid for the Elgin School District. She enjoyed cross-word puzzles, card games, scrabble, and family gatherings. She was awarded the Union County 4-H leader of the year for 2014 and was also the Honorary Chapter farmer for vocational agriculture for 1987. She was a 4-H leaser, a member of the United Suffolk Sheep Association, several churches and Rainbow Girls. Sharon was an amazing organizer and they way she said “I love you” was by doing something for you. She was involved in multiple fundraisers for not only family members, but also to help support people in need. She raised money for the 4-H Auction, Grad Night, and numerous other organizations

Sharon is survived by her husband, George; son, Jeff Smith of Elgin, OR and daughter, Connie Carter (Glen) of Elgin, OR; sister, Beverly Hays of Elgin, OR; 7 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lucian and Verna; daughter, Sharma Smith; brother & sister-in-law, Leslie and Nancy Case and sister & brother-in-law, Patricia and Clarence Southard, and brother-in-law, Clarence Hays.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 3101 SW Sam Jackson Park Road, Portland, OR 97239.
