Butch proudly served his country in the United States Army and was wounded in action during his service in the Korean War. Following his military service, he worked as a coal miner for Consol Energy, and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America.
He was also a devout member of Rhea Chapel.
He is survived by sons, Junior Butcher and wife Barbara, of Grafton and Gary Butcher, of Flemington; and daughter, Sue Ann Tharp and husband Floyd, of Florida.
Butch is survived by brother, Verlin “Bud” Butcher of Lewisburg, and sister, Beatrice “Bea” Kisner, of Fairmont and several caring nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by grandchildren, Billie Jo Bowser and husband Steve, Tina Stottlemire and husband Scott, Tim Butcher and wife Jenny, Shaun Butcher and wife Erin, Donny Morris, Chad Morris and wife Erika, and Jason Tharp and wife Jillian, as well as 17 loving great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Butch was preceded in death by son, James “Jimmy” Allen Butcher; and brothers, Bernard Butcher and Robert Butcher.
Family and friends are welcome to call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, Fairmont, on Monday, September 17, 2018 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. with services taking place on Tuesday, September 18th at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Bill Preston officiating.
Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery, with Full Military Honors provided by the Marion County Veteran’s Council Honor Guard and the United States Army Reserves at Camp Dawson.
