Wife of Claus Bollwinkel. Lived at 271 West 39th Street. The property stayed in the family for many years transferring from various family members. The property was vested in Margaret Bollwinkle(sic) , widow of Claus until after her death: "By order of the executors of Margaretha Bollwinkle, Auctioneers Adrian H. Muller & Son sold No. 431 West Thirty-ninth street, a four story, dwelling on lot 25x98.9, between Ninth and Tenth avenues for $16, 250, to Anna Helmke." New York Herald December 5, 1888 page 9.
Anna Helmke is the oldest daughter of Claus. She and her husband, Henry Helmke were residing in Jersey City, New Jersey from 1880 to their deaths which probably occurred in Jersey City in 1910 as there were probate actions filed on both of them in 1910 in Hudson County, New Jersey.
Anna Helmke sold the property to her half-brother, Henry Bollwinkel. The New York Times Real Estate Section on September 26, 1903 shows the following: 39TH ST, n s, 400 ft w of 9th Av, 25x98.9; Anna Helmke to Henry Bullwinkle, (mtg $5,416.66) $16,250.
Margaret Bollwinkel is the head of household in the 1870 census.
Household Members:
Name Age
Margar Bullwinkel 48
Minna Bullwinkel 16
Claus Bullwinkel 14
Henry Bullwinkel 8
This same 1870 census record gives Margaret's birthplace as Hannover and her Real Estate Value was $18,000.

The Bollwinkel family also had land in Yorktown, Westchester County, New York. We found a deed from the Executor of Claus Bollwinkel to M.E. Church, Yorktown; 1867 May; Book 636, Page 352 which shows land given from the Claus Bollwinkel estate, by his wife and executor Margaret Bollwinkel to the Methodist Episcopal Church of Yorktown.
The farm land of Claus Bollwinkel was conveyed to Robert W. Lawrence by Margaret Bollwinkel in March 1867 and recorded in Book 628, Page 50. The family name continued to appear in the subsequent deeds. The Bollwinkel name also appeared in county atlases as “E. Bulwinker” which is possibly a reference to the estate under a variant spelling.
