Emily Dyson was born 27 January 1845 the first child of John Dyson and Amelia Lambert. She had a sister and a brother. She married Squire Hepworth when she was 18 years old; he was 20 ( August 1863. Squire had joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when he was eight and his father was the Presiding Elder. The family planned to emigrate to Utah. Squire's oldest brother, Edmund, and his wife were the first in the family to emigrate. Squire and Emily sailed on the ship, "General McClellan" leaving Liverpool 21 May 1864 and arriving in New York 33 days later., having survived a huge storm aboard ship. When they arrived in America, the Civil War was going on. Emily was expecting their first child, Thornton, born 14 July 1864 in Wyoming, Otoe County, Nebraska while they were on the trail to Utah. They joined the William S. Warren Wagon Train, part of the Samuel D. White Company. They were met by Edmund when they got to Salt Lake City. They went to Smithfield, Cache, Utah to make their home. Emily gave birth to Emily Ann 12 December 1865.
Emily was baptized 10 April 1866 and they were sealed in the Endowment House by George Q. Cannon, who also sealed Edmund and his wife, Hannah Cowling. Emily and Squire moved to Oxford Branch in Idaho and Emily gave birth to Squire Edmond 22 April 1869. Their fifth child, Joseph Ephraim was born 28 January 1871. He died at 18 months of age. They were active members of the Church and settled the area in Oxford. Squire moved the family to Stockton where she gave birth of Charles Dyson 17 August 1874. He died when he was two. She had Clara Elizabeth 14 May 1876. The family decided to move to Springdale, Utah and they arrived 14 June 1877. Emily had to leave her two little boys buried in Idaho. Their property in Springdale had 110 peach trees planted by Thomas E. Flanigan, who moved to Monroe, Utah. Squire was a blacksmith, carpenter, made shoes and farmed. On 22 July 1877 Emily was called to serve in the Springdale Relief Society. They donated their Sunday eggs to the Relief Society so they could have funds to help people. On 9 November 1879 Emily had a boy, Russell King, born in Springdale. In 1880 they did temple work for their family members who had died. When Edmund moved away, Squire became the Presiding Elder. 8 August 1881 Emily gave birth to Eleanor. On July 16, 1883 she gave birth to Hyrum, who was born in Springdale. Emily's son Thornton, who was born in Nebraska on their way to Utah, was married to Elzina Draper and left the household. In October 1887 Emily gave birth to Harriet, who only lived a short time and died. She was still serving in the Relief Society when she died 7 November 1887, a day after Squire was released as Presiding Elder of the Springdale Branch and was sustained as the 1st Counselor in the Springdale Ward. She was 42 years old.
