Nathaniel was listed as 25 OH in the 1860 Ripley Twp., Brown Co., IL census with his parents Cornelius & Agnes (Rush) Lanning, as well as Stephen Lanning 22 OH and Mary N. Lanning 17 IL.

On pg. 82 of Ethel Albin's Lanning genealogy, she says that "in the 1900 census he was living as a boarder in the home of James R. Seckmany, Sherman Twp., Kearney Co., NE." She has that he "lived in Hildreth, Kearney Co., NE, in 1925."

His brother Jonathan Lanning is also buried in this cemetery.

According to the 1910 census for Antelope, Franklin Co., NE, Nathaniel was single and a boarder.
