He was born in Wilkes-Barre, a son of the late John and Louise Thomas Cherkauskas. Charles was a 1961 graduate of Meyers High School. He served with the U.S. Coast Guard from 1961 to 1967.
Prior to his retirement, he had been employed by Metropolitan Wire for many years. Charles was an avid outdoorsman and fisherman.
He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish at St. Mary's Church of the Immaculate Conception in Wilkes-Barre, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society.
He was preceded in death by his son, Donald Bachman, and infant brother, David Cherkauskas.
Charles is survived by his wife of 41 years, Christine "Tina" Yatsko Cherkauskas; daughter, Judi Comisky, Wilkes-Barre; granddaughter, Jessica Bachman; siblings, John Cherkauskas, Hanover Twp.; Anthony Cherkauskas and his wife, Linda, Plymouth; Mary Ann Everhart and her husband, Sheldon, Hanover Twp.; Albert Cherkauskas and his wife, Eileen, Ashley; Kathy Phillips and her husband, Robert, Canandaigua, N.Y.; William Cherkauskas and his wife, Mary, Ashley; and Eugene Cherkauskas and his wife, Sandra, Pittston; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday from Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Parish at St. Mary's Church of the Immaculate Conception, 134 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Twp.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
