Annie Seger, 86, passed away Saturday, Aug. 18, 2018, in her home in El Reno, surrounded by her loved ones.

Annie was born Jan. 7, 1932, at the original Romannose allotment outside of Watonga (where Romannose State Park now stands). Cheyenne Chief Henry Romannose and Standing-Twenty Romannose had two children, John and Amanda. Annie was the daughter of John and Nona (Nibbs) Romannose and a granddaughter of Henry Romannose. Annie grew up in Watonga where she attended a country school named Centralia School. She graduated from Watonga High School in 1951. During this time, Annie was baptized at Watonga Indian Baptist at the age of 17 along with her mother, Nona and her sister, Stella Bessie. She remained a member of Watonga Indian Baptist Church.

After high school, she attended and graduated from Bacone College in Muskogee, and Central State University in Edmond, where she received a teaching degree in Education. She began her career as a teacher’s assistant. Later, she worked as a realty clerk for the Bureau of Indian Affairs at Concho Agency. She retired in 2007 after over 30 years in federal government service.

Her husband of 61 years fondly recalls family and Cheyenne tribal community pride in Annie for getting her college education at that time; it was an encouraging accomplishment for a Native American woman during the mid-1950’s.

Annie and Frank were married in 1957 and began their family. She enjoyed bowling, jigsaw puzzles, Thunder basketball games, and most of all taking care of her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Vida, Fred, Amanda, Milan and John Jr., and her own beloved daughter, Francine Seger in 1975.

She is survived by her husband, Frank Seger; sons, Donnie Ray Seger, John Seger, Robin Seger and Darryl Seger; and daughters, Jeanine Seger and Deborah Ellis; grandchildren, Rebekah Ellis, Francine Lowe, Clifton Ellis Jr., Elijah Ellis and Kayelyn Chalepah, all of El Reno; and her sister, Stella Bessie Romannose Blackbear of Watonga. Her nieces include Betty Lou Red Buffalo White of Arapaho, Rosemary Hail Connor and husband, David of Las Cruces, N.M., Maxine Red Buffalo Condulle and husband, Claude of Oklahoma City, and Mona Red Buffalo of Albuquerque, N.M., Roberta Blackbear Osage of Weatherford, Wilma Blackbear Whitebird and husband, Malcolm Jr. of Watonga and Ida Blackbear Parton and husband, Kenneth of Stecker; also, nephews, Melvin Romannose of El Reno, Larry Romannose and wife, Pauline of Watonga, Quinton Romannose and wife, Ladonna of Watonga, Eugene Blackbear Jr., Rex Paul Blackbear and wife, Phyllis, Ralph Blackbear and Fred Blackbear of Watonga and Delbert Hail of Watonga,

On Thursday, Aug. 23, 2018, all-night wake services will be at the Concho Community Hall in Concho at 7 p.m. On Friday, Aug. 24, 2018, funeral services will be at the Benson Funeral Home Chapel in El Reno at 1 p.m. Interment is in the El Reno Cemetery.
