Amelia was born September 27, 1915 in Ault, Colorado, the daughter of Henry and Katherine (Cook) Hoff, Sr. She moved with her family to the Mitchell, Nebraska area, in 1918, where she was raised and received her elementary education and high school degree from Sunflower School.

Amelia was united in marriage to Alec Margheim on April 4, 1937, at Mitchell. They resided in the Sunflower Community, being involved in farming and livestock operations until Alec's death in 1977. Subsequently, Amelia remained on the family farm where she continued to enjoy cooking (angel food cake was her specialty), tending to her plants/flowers, attending adult classes at WNCC and entertaining family and friends. She especially treasured the time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and maintained her involvement in the family farming business until moving to the Residency Care Center in 2012. She was a very loving wife and mother who sacrificed much for the needs and caring of loved ones.

Until its recent closure, she was an active member in St. Paul's church, at Mitchell, and served for several years as a Sunday School teacher, President of the Ladies Guild and in leadership roles for various church functions. She participated in many community activities which included being a long-time member of the Sunflower Women's Club and the "Cum Again Club".

Survivors include her daughter, Karen (LeRoy) Johns of Keenesburg, Colorado; sons, Gary (MaryAnn) Margheim of Stafford, Virginia and Jim Margheim (Kathy Bosch) of Mitchell, Nebraska; grandchildren, Lisa (Charlie) Cox, Greg (Bonnie) Margheim, Troy (Tricia) Johns, Marc (Jennifer) Johns, Nancy (Paul) Gorges, Lori (Jamie) Lewis and Bob Margheim; 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
