Richard E. “Dick” Bowen, a resident of Mt. Olive, Alabama, was born in Fulton, Mississippi on January 19, 1927. He went home to be with the Lord on July 30, 2018 at the age of 91. Dick served our country as a Merchant Marine during WWII and later in the United States Army. He was a long time member of the Mt. Olive Church of Christ where he served the Lord faithfully throughout his life. He was a founding member of the Gardendale High School Band Boosters. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and a devoted family man. He never met a stranger and he was known throughout his church and community for his love for people, how he put others before himself, and how he spent his life helping anyone he could.

Dick was preceded in death by Shirley Thorn Bowen, his loving wife of 66 years, his childhood sweetheart and the love of his life. They were married in 1947 and shared a lifetime of love and devotion. He was also preceded by his parents, Sumpter and Ellie Bowen and a brother, Albert Sidney Bowen.
