As a young girl Nettie united with the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church of Wythe Township and was a member until the church disbanded. After finishing school she taught for several years, but failing hearing in the early twenties caused her to enter a rather retired life, which she devoted to her family and friends. To the last her last old associates and friends were the dearest to her. Her greatest pleasure was reading and the love of children. Her chief regret many times expressed, was that she was deprived of the sound of children's voices. Her mind was stored with the best of the world's writings and until the past six months she read with interest the world's events.
Kindness to others was her life's rule, and her greatest delight was to do something for someone else.
Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church Friday morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev. E. C. Lee. Music was furnished by Mrs. Eve Simmons Runyon of Carthage and Jean Thompson of Elvaston, accompanied by Miss Selma Miller at the piano.
Pall bearers were J. L. Baldon, F. C. McGee, F. B. Horney, Bert Stimson, Lester McGinnis and Otha Timberlake. Burial was in the family vault in the McGee Cemetery south of Elvaston.
