Lorraine G. Hovland, 90 of Austin, Minnesota, died Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at St. Mark’s Living in Austin.

Lorraine was born September 16, 1927 in Gilmore City, Iowa to Everett and Vera (Snyder) Davidson and graduated from Austin High School. On December 2, 1950, she married George Hovland at the First United Methodist Church in Austin. She was a dental assistant for Dr. Fenton and Dr. Benning. Later, she worked in Women’s Fashions at the Sears Store in Austin.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Y Matrons and the neighborhood birthday club.

Lorraine was a gardener, enjoying fruits and vegetables from which she would can and make jams. She had beautiful flower gardens, often wintering her geraniums from year to year. She volunteered her time at the Salvation Army. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family, always making sure they were well fed. She adopted Maci, her dog that became her companion in recent years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; great grandson, Abel; brothers, Gary “Tiny” Davidson and Richard “Dick” Davidson and sister, Doris Braaten.

Lorraine is survived by her two sons, Rick (Shelly) Hovland, Austin, Minnesota and Greg Hovland (Karen), Austin, Minnesota; grandchildren, Heidi Hovland (Doug Stokes), Rolling Stone, Minnesota, Steven Hovland (Samantha Balaski), Austin, Minnesota, Samantha Story (Bob), Abby Attleson (Scott), Austin, Minnesota and Grace Hovland, Minneapolis, Minnesota; great grandchildren, Caleb, Hayden, Kahler, Audrina and Erik; sisters-in-law, Fran Davidson, Austin, Minnesota, Marion Travetto, Arlington Heights, Illinois and Deanna LeBarron, Worland, Wyoming; nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 4th at First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Dennis Tamke officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church one hour before the service on Saturday.

Memorials may be designated to the Salvation Army.
