Elizabeth “Betty” G. Borek, 71, of Memphis entered eternal life on Monday, July 30, 2018. She was born on March 25, 1947 in Detroit Michigan to the late Thomas and Grace St. Denis. She married Dennis Borek on November 25, 1966 in the Queen of All Saints Church in Fraser, Michigan and enjoyed 51 years of marriage. Betty had a huge heart and was as self-less as she was compassionate. She had a passion for volunteer work and was always ready to help out in any way she could. All through her life Betty was heavily involved in her church, community and school district. Not only was she a bus driver for the Memphis school district from 1976 until her retirement in 2017 she also was active in the school Sports and Music Boosters. She would help clean at the Saint Augustine Catholic School in Richmond. She taught Catechism for 45 years in the Holy Family Church in Memphis. Betty was a faithful member of the Daughters of Isabella in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Emmett. She was also an active member of the Divine Mercy group in the Holy Family Church. She was a dedicated Boy Scout and Cub Scout leader. Most of all Betty was devoted to her family. Betty is survived by her husband, Dennis; her sons, Michael Borek of Memphis, Dennis Thomas Borek of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and her “adopted” son, Matt Dunsmore; her daughters, Bernadette (Eric) Malooley of Port Huron, and Bridget (Stephen) Ames of Chesterfield; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, John Melvin; three sisters, Joanne (Bill) Baker, Karen (Mark) Grieves, and Mary (Rick) Fell; a brother-in-law, Denny Dryden; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Melvin; and a sister, Jean Dryden. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 2, 2018 from 3:00pm to 8:00pm with a rosary being prayed at 7:00pm in the Kammeraad-Merchant Funeral Home, Memphis. A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Friday, August 3, 2018 at 11:00am with visitation from 10:00am until the time of the service in the Holy family Church, Memphis. Burial will be in Memphis Cemetery, Memphis. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to either the Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit or Grace Hospice.
