Byrd Metcalf, 89, of Hunter Street, passed away Monday, April 16, 2007 in Spruce Pine Hospital.
A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late George and Laura Anglin Metcalf.
He was the husband of Myrtle Hunter Metcalf who died in 1988.
He was a retired employee of the N.C. Dept. of Transportation. Byrd was a member of the Green Mountain Freewill Baptist Church.
Surviving are 2 daughters: Linda Gillespie and husband, Joe, and Jerri Storie and husband, Tom, all of Burnsville; 3 grandchildren: Joel Storie and wife, Sherri, of Raleigh, Audria Briggs and husband, John, of Bakersville, and Adam Storie of Burnsville; 3 great grandchildren: Hunter Briggs, Gavin Storie and Quincy Storie; a sister: Delana Darden of Asheville; and a dear friend, Kathleen Haney and a special friend, Debbie Moore.
Funeral services will be held at 8:00 P. M. Thursday in the chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. Revs. Vanita Deyton and Steve Penland will officiate.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday in the Grover Hunter Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:00 P.M. prior to the service at the funeral home.
