Stillman Young Dies in Fremont
ST. Anthony, July 12 - Stillman Young 79, died at his home in Twin Groves Wednesday at 6:30 a.m. of a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the First LDS ward chapel with the Twin Groves bishopric officiating.
Mr. Young was born June 9, 1872, in Princeton Minn, a son of James and Martha Judkins young. When a boy of five he moved to North Ogden, Utah, with his widowed mother and an older brother Charles. In 1891 he moved to the Upper Snake River Valley settling at Twin Groves where he was employed at the Williams sawmill. He hauled lumber for some of the first buildings every to be erected in St. Anthony and also hauled produce from Market Lake, now know as Roberts until such a time as a closer market was established.
When a young man Mr. Young enrolled as a pupil in the Twin Groves School in order to bring the enrollment to the required number of students for a district school.
He married Elizabeth Hanes Clark at Wilford January 1, 1894, in the Logan LDS temple. They then took out a homestead on the ranch where they have lived until the time of his death. He operated the farm himself until two years ago when he was taken ill.
Active in Church
Survivors are his widow and the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Faunt Gorman, Salt Lake City; CY Young and Mrs. Blanche Edginton and Mrs. Beulah Fisher, Ashton; Mrs. Eunice Goulding, St. Anthony, route 1. One daughter preceded him in death.
Mr. Young was active in the LDS church and served in the Chester ward Sunday school for three years. When the Chester and Twin Groves wards were divided he was the first superintendent of the Twin Groves ward, a position which he held for 16 and one half years. He also served in the bishopric of the twin Groves ward with Bishop E. P. Peterson and Soren J. Hansen. For many years he served as ward teacher in his community. He served continuously in capacities of his ward from the time he arrived in the valley until ill health forced him to retire. He served also as a trustee in the Twin Groves school district and as a director of the Fall River Irrigation canal.
When the old chapel was built at Twin Graves he helped in the constriction of the building and donated toward the new chapel. He was a member of the Yellowstone Stake high priests quorum.
Mr. Young was the youngest of a family of eight children and was the last surviving member of his family. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Interment will be in the Wilford Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hansen Funeral home until time of services.
