Obituary: Beckley Post-Herald Thursday, September 27, 1956
* Bailey Funeral Set Tomorrow *
Funereal services for Wilmer Thomas Bailey will be conducted at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Killarney Methodist Church by the Rev. Charles B. Cox, assisted by the Rev. E. R. Shafer. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Bailey, 40, died at his residence at 7 a.m. yesterday after an illness of four months. Born at Affinity on March 1, 1916, he was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar J. (see note below) Bailey of Killarney. He was a mine foreman for the Winding Gulf Collieries Co., and was a member of Moose Lodge No. 1606, and the Coal City Chapter No. 156, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his widow, Mrs. Alma Smedley of Winding Gulf; one brother , Homer M. of Charlottesville, Va.; three sisters, Mrs. Dennis Cales of Green Sulphur Springs, Mrs. Elmer Gwinnof Lockbridge, and Mrs. Ermon Bragg of Hicks. Also surviving are three sons, Wilmer Thomas Jr. and James Douglas, both of Rhodell, and Jeffrey David, at home.
Masonic graveside rites will be conducted by the Coal City Masonic Lodge, and members of the lodge will serve as pallbearers. The body will be taken to the residence at 5 p.m. today from the Webb and Quesenberry Funeral Home."
NOTE: The published obituary was in error. Wilmer's parents were Mr. and Mrs Thomas Franklin Bailey, not Mr. and Mrs. Oscar J. Bailey as listed. Mr, and Mrs. Oscar J. Smedley was the parents of his wife Alma Magdalene Smedley.
