Adeline Katherine Haggard Lady, 95, of Jacksonville, Florida, formerly of Normal, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 18, 2018.

Adeline was born on September 22, 1916 in Hopedale to Louis Litwiller and Lena Nafziger Litwiller. On June 29, 1946, she married George T. Haggard in Bloomington, and he passed away October 9, 1963. Adeline was blessed to find love a second time and married Walter P. Lady on July 15, 1967, in Normal. He passed away on December 16, 1994.

Her parents, a sister, Helen Litwiller, and a brother, Clifford Litwiller, also preceded her in death.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Haggard (Barney) Madison, Jacksonville, Florida; son, Arlan G. (Tammy) Haggard, Normal; granddaughter, Brooke Madison (Charles "Rusty") Ward, Mulberry, Florida; and grandson, Cameron Madison, Lakeland, Florida; two great grandsons, Gannon Ward of Mulberry, Florida, and Brentley Madison of Lakeland, Florida. Adeline is also survived by daughters, Janet Lady (Hayes) Hendricks, Lakeview, Arkansas, Joan Lady (William) Fike, and Peggy Lady (Stephen) Whelan, Bloomington; four grandsons Donald Fike, Jeffrey Fike, Jason Fike, Jamie Fike; and one granddaughter Cindy Fike (Kevin) Kelly; and one great grandson Jeffrey Allen Fike. Lastly, Adeline is survived by her beloved cat, Lucky Lady.

During her lifetime, Adeline enjoyed a long career as a legal secretary. She was employed directly after graduating business college, by William F. Costigan, Sr. at Costian & Wololrab, and worked for both he and his son, William F. Costigan, Jr,. when his son later joined the firm. In the early days of her career as a legal secretary, she was often called over to the county courthouse by the judge to take testimony by shorthand in the years before court reporters were employed for that purpose. She retired from working when Sandy was born to stay home and be a mother. Several years after Sandy was born, George moved the family to Indiana, and Arlan arrived the next year. When George passed from complications after surgery the following year, Adeline moved her family back to Normal and eventually went back to work at Costigan & Wollrab, this time working for James T. Finegan. She also took in some extra typing at home, transcribing depositions for court reporter Leonard Mack. When retirement finally did come in her early 60s, she was working for John Pratt, Sr. and his daughter, Cathy Pratt, at their law firm.

Adeline and Walter enjoyed many years together traveling, attending church, and watching the Cubs play on TV. She also enjoyed hanging out and doing things with her sister and best friend Helen. The two of them were infamous wherever they went! She enjoyed her cats and especially her last cat, Lucky Lady, who, along with the rest of her family, will miss her very much. She lived and enjoyed the last five and a half years in Jacksonville, Florida, with Sandy and Barney and, she finally got to see her Cubbies win the World Series! She was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church in Normal.

Adeline's unwavering love, support, humor, smile, laugh, and sometimes wrinkle of the nose with a pout will be greatly missed by her earthbound family and friends. She is now rejoicing and catching up with family and friends who have gone before her and have welcomed her home with open arms. She and Helen are undoubtedly up to something!

Visitation will be at Calvary Baptist Church in Normal on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. and Wednesday, July 25, from 11:00-11:30 a.m. Funeral service will be at Calvary Baptist Church on Wednesday, July 25 at 11:30 a.m. officiated by the Rev.
