Andy was born in Kickapoo, a son of Charles and Cecilia (Loescher) Stenger. He married Ollie Philbee on April 21, 1956 at St. Joseph Church in Brimfield, IL. She survives.
Andy is survived by nine children, eight daughters; Tanya “Tonto” Green of Edwards, Andrea “Sis” (Thomas) Heinz of Kickapoo, Paula (Ken) Helm of Tampa, FL., Angela (Robert) Wiegand of Deer Creek, IL., Pam “Pancake” (Rod) Weaver of Hanna City, Teresa “Feach” (Mark) Humphrey of Kickapoo, Cindy (Jeff) Metz of Peoria Heights, and Carla “Nardi” Wineland of Peoria and one son, Jim “Jimbo” (Kathy) Stenger of Kickapoo. He is also survived by four siblings; Ray Stenger of Peoria, Cecilia Guth of Metamora, Sr. Jean Francis of Lacon and Mary Loise Stenger of Wisconsin, 24 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, three brothers, and one great-grandson, Austin Williams.
Andy was a lifelong self-employed farmer in Kickapoo, starting at the age of 10. He graduated from the Spalding Academy in 1953. He loved his family and farming with his son, Jim and grandsons. He enjoyed dancing, especially with his wife and daughters, playing baseball, watching horse racing, hogging fish, hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Kickapoo Sportsman Club, the Farm Bureau and was active in Dairy Farming. Andy was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Kickapoo.
Visitation will be from 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Thursday, July 12, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Parish Hall in Kickapoo. A Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 AM, Friday, July 13, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with a one hour prior visitation. Fr. Joseph Dondanville will officiate and burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic School in Kickapoo or Illinois CancerCare Vitas Hospice.
