James Richard Billig, 80, a long time Hyde Park resident, died Thursday, August 27, 2015, at the Renaissance Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center in Staatsburg. Born December 30, 1934 in Eastbrook, PA, he was the son of the late Maxwell and Ina Patterson Billig.

Jim proudly served in the U.S. Naval Reserves as a corpsman. He received a Masters Degree in Special Education, and worked at F. D. Roosevelt High School for many years until his retirement. Jim was a member of the United Methodist Church of Hyde Park, where he held various positions including lay speaker and Sunday School teacher for over 50 years. Active with sports at the high school, he was a former girl's track coach, PA announcer for the home football games, and scorekeeper for the basketball team. He was devoted to his family and touched many lives with his love for the Lord and his students.

On March 29, 1957, he married "the love of his life," the former Janis Anderson. His wife of 58 years survives at home. In addition to his wife, Janis, Jim is survived by his daughters, Kimberly Mauch, and husband, Brian, of Red Hook, Amy Rhoades, and husband, Nicholas, of Ballston Lake, and Jennifer Marchetti, and husband, Norman, of Chelsea, MI; and seven grandchildren, Devin and Cody Mauch, James and Kyra Rhoades, Nicholas Rhoades and wife, Caroline, and Elizabeth and Roy Marchetti.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his twin infant grandsons, James and Brian Mauch.

Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM, on August 30th at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park. Funeral Services are 11 AM, Monday, August 31st at the United Methodist Church of Hyde Park, 1 Church St., Hyde Park. Burial will follow in the family plot in Union Cemetery of Hyde Park.
