Mary Ann was born to John and Sophia Shald on April 15, 1930 in Stuart, Nebraska.

She passed to her eternal reward on April 14, 2017, surrounded by loved ones in the family home.

Mary Ann was a life-long resident of Stuart attending elementary and high school there and meeting the man that the Lord intended for her.

She was united in marriage to Eugene R. Hoffman on June 1, 1949 at St. Boniface Catholic Church and the couple began their 67+ years together. In those years, they welcomed 6 children and together the couple built a thriving cattle ranching operation.

Mary Ann took Jesus word to serve others to her heart. Her actvivites outside her home and family included Christian Mothers, American Legion Auxiliary, St. Boniface Choir, Lector, Teacher of Religious Education and all around good neighbor. Gene always said, "If someone needs to hear a YES, they know they can call Mary Ann".

One of Mary Ann's dreams was to become a nurse. While the formal education never took place, her dream was fulfilled when she began her work as nursing assistant at Parkside Manor. For approximately 24 years, she pored her loving heart into this work, as she lived her faith ministering to the residents. Her amazing example served as a model for other women who worked there. Some of those women were able to express that admiration and gratitude to her when they became her caregivers in her last years. Mary Ann's care giving also extended into the family home when Gene's Aunt Cele spent the final 6 ½ years of her life with them.

Mary Ann had a great love for children. She showered this love onto her own children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Her nurturing abilities also extended into life on the ranch as she nursed sick calves, piglets, chickens, and kittens.

Mary Ann also spent countless hours nurturing her extensive vegetable and flower gardens and sharing the bountiful produce with the community.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, siblings/spouses - George (Mary), Gilbert, Louis, Roland, Ivo, Paul and Richard and Lilian (Art) Olberding, and by grandsons, Jeffery Van Anne and Michael Nash.
