Betty L. Elizabeth Ammerman Sharer, 77, of rural Tyrone died Saturday Aug. 22, 1998, at Greentree Village in Tyrone.

She was born Jan. 19, 1921, in Tyrone, a daughter of the late Clyde and Meriam Blair Ammerman. On Oct. 18, 1941, in Chesterfield, S.C. she married Clair G. Sharer, who survives at home.

She was a 1939 graduate of Tyrone High School and a graduate of the Altoona School for Secretaries.

She was a secretary for Shaffer's Meat Plant, Miller's Hardware Blatchford Furniture and Prom Sales, a Division of Gardner's Candies.

She owned and operated the Eagle's Nest, a sporting goods store in Bald Eagle.

Beginning in November 1989 she served for four years as the auditor of Snyder Township.

She enjoyed gardening, fishing, and was an avid reader.

She was a member of Bald Eagle United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher since 1955.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Patricia Varacalli of Boalsburg; a son, Jerome Sharer of Bald Eagle; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc., 115 W. 10th St. in Tyrone.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bald Eagle United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Norman E. Huff officiating.

Burial will be in Bald Eagle Cemetery.
