Pvt. Ward E. Bailey, 27, Oswego Father of Two, Dies of Battle Wounds

FULTON.—Pvt. Ward E. Bailey, 27, died Aug. 19 from wounds received in France three days earlier, his wife, Mrs. Elga Bailey of Oswego RD 4, has been informed by the war department.

Pvt. Bailey was inducted into the army Sept. 22, 1943, and
received training in the infantry at Fort McClellan, Ala. Completing his basic training in January, Pvt. Bailey spent a 10-day furlough with his family, and a month later landed in North Africa from where he was assigned to Italy, After recovering from an attack of malaria, he participated in the invasion of Southern France.

Pvt. Bailey was an employe of the Armstrong Cork Co. before entering the service. He is survived by his wife; two children, Ward, Jr., 2, and Joan Marie, four weeks; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Orra Bailey; three sisters, Mrs. Frances Bankerd and Miss Margaret Bailey, both of Oswego RD 4, and Mrs. Lyman DuBois of North Volney; three brothers, Earl and Glen Bailey of Oswego RD 4, and Corp. Donald Bailey of the army in France
