Funeral services will be Monday, June 18, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at First Christian Church with Rev. Matt Broxterman officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Sunday, June 17th from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral home with whom the final care has been entrusted. Memorials to First Christian Church or the American Cancer Society c/o the funeral home.
Roy was born April 11, 1932 in Greenleaf, Kansas the son of Alpha and Amelia Alexander Mercer. He attended elementary school in Washington, Kansas and graduated from the Washington High School in 1949.
He and Lila J. Sinclair were united in marriage on June 23, 1950 at First Christian Church in Atchison, Kansas.
Roy served as a distiller with McCormick Distillery for thirty seven years until his retirement.
He was an active member and participant of First Christian Church and served as an Elder of the church. He was also a former member of the Shriners.
Roy is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lila; two sons, William and Roy Dean; two daughters, Debbie and Rhonda; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, William, Chester, Sylvester and Merle Mercer and three sisters, Mary Nichols, Edna Hildebrand, and Eunice Avery.
