Topeka state Journal Saturday 28 October, 1972:

GREENLEAF - Graveside services will be Sunday at Greenleaf City Cemetery for Alpha W. Mercer, 93, rural Rushville, Mo., formerly of Greenleaf, who died Thursday night in a Rushville nursing home where he had been about 2 and a half years.

He was born August 11, 1879 at Greenleaf in Washington County, Ks. and lived in the Greenleaf community about 50 years. He later lived at East Atchison, Mo. He formerly was a farmer in Washington County and later worked at the Kansas Children's Receiving Home at Atchison and for Blair Mill and Elevator at Atchison before he retired.

He was married to Amelia Alexander July 25, 1912. She died June 19, 1932. He was married to Anna Kastin August 1, 1933. She died May 16, 1967.

Survivors include 3 daughters, Mrs. Edna Hildebrant, West Palm Beach, Fla., Mrs. Eunice Avery, Junction City and Mrs. Mary Nichols, Oklahoma City, Okla.; 5 sons, Merle Mercer and Roy Mercer, both of Atchison, William Mercer, Encinitas, Calif., Chester Mercer, Collinsville, Ill., and Sylvester Mercer, Wichita; 29 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Earlier services will be Sunday at Stanton Mortuary at Atchison.
