A. Eugene Emerick, 88, of Springfield, died at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, June 11, 2018 at his home.

Eugene was born August 2, 1929 in Springfield, the son of Athal Eldo and Hazel Frances Cooper Emerick. He married Margaret Ann Williams on October 18, 1958 in Metropolis.

Eugene proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois in Civil Engineering and was a member of the Civil Engineering Society there. He was employed as a civil engineer in Springfield, St. Louis, Park Forest, and Shillington, PA for 30 years and had an engineering registration in eight states. Eugene enjoyed history, words and language, genealogy, books, and educational TV programs.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Norman Cooper Emerick; and sister, Helen Frances Shedlebower.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret A. Emerick of Springfield; niece and nephew, Linda and Mark Shedlebower, both of Springfield; and nine other nieces and nephews.

Cremation was accorded by Lincoln Land Cremation Society.

Private family burial will be held at a later date.
