Marvin “Bud” Boots, 94, of Mandan, formerly of Washburn and Riverdale, ND, died May 30, 2018 at CHI St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck.
A celebration of Bud’s life will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, June 2nd, 2018 at the St. Bonaventure’s Catholic Church in Underwood, ND. Interment will be held 10:30 AM Monday in the church cemetery with military rites provided by the American Legion Victor B. Wallin Post 12 of Washburn and the ND National Guard Military Honors.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday at St. Bonaventure’s Catholic Church with a rosary prayed at 6:45 PM and a prayer service at 7:00 PM.
Marvin was born July 16, 1923 on the family farm near Coleharbor, ND to Herschel & Alma (Fajerson) Boots. He was raised and educated in McLean County and worked on the family farm. Marvin “Bud” served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in occupied Japan. He was honorably discharged in December 1946. On July 16th, 1949 he married the love of his life, June Meier, in Underwood, ND. Bud worked construction on the Garrison Dam, owned and operated Bud’s Food Center in Coleharbor, and worked at the Audubon Refuge, all while farming the family land. He spent the remainder of his working career with the U.S. Corps of Engineers at the Garrison Dam Hydro-Electric Power Plant. Bud retired in 1985. In retirement, he greatly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, along with his hobbies of fishing, hunting, gardening, golfing, bowling, wood working, and leather work. Bud served as a member of the Riverdale School board for many years and also served on the first City Council of Riverdale.
Marvin is survived by his wife of 69 years, June Boots; five children, Kristie (Jerry) Rollness, Mary (Dwight) Pochant , Milissa (Clark) Price, Casey (Gail) Boots, and Karri (Daniel) Malsam; 17 grandchildren & 19 great grandchildren; three sisters, Janice Padget, Paula Simenson, & Rosemary (Dennis) Boostrom.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter (Claudia Baker), one grandson (Michael Fetzer), one great-grandson (Mikey Fetzer), two brothers (Clayton & Harold), and two sisters (Muriel & Gloria).
