Clayton P. Boots, 88, Underwood, died May 14, 2014, at a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at St. Bonaventure's Catholic Church, Underwood. Officiating will be the Rev. Patrick Cunningham. Interment will be at Coleharbor Cemetery with military rites provided by Turtle Lake American Legion.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at St. Bonaventure's Catholic Church with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

Clayton was born to Herschel and Alma (Fajerson) Boots on May 1, 1926, in McLean County. He was raised and educated in McLean County and graduated from Coleharbor High School. After high school, he joined the U.S. Army in 1946, and was stationed in Occupied Japan.

Clayton married the love of his life, Margaret Huettl, in Garrison on Oct. 8, 1950. Their special bond was evident throughout their many years of marriage. Clayton and Margaret made their home in Coleharbor, where he ran the Sunny Side Service Station and farmed with his father. He later became the rural mail carrier out of Coleharbor, and retired in 1981.

Clayton served on the Underwood School Board, Coleharbor City Council and was the Coleharbor City Auditor for many years. During this time, he also kept farming until retiring in the early '90s. Clayton and Margaret moved to Underwood in 2000. He enjoyed gardening, working in the yard, doing wood working and spending time with his family. Clayton took great pride in sharing his wood working with his family and friends.

Clayton is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margaret, Underwood; his children, Myron (Sandy), Houston, ValaRae (Ken) Kasbohm, Irvine, Calif., Tim (Nanette), Bismarck, Gail (Rick) Olson, Underwood, and Sue (Dan) Swanson, Bowman; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Marvin "Bud" (June) Boots, Washburn; his sisters, Paula Simonson, Sun City, Fla., Rosemary (Dennis) Boostrom, Clearwater, Fla., and Janice Padget, Sun City, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herschel and Alma; one granddaughter, Ashley Swanson; two sisters, Gloria and Muriel; and a brother, Harold.

Memorials preferred to Coleharbor Cemetery, St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, Underwood or a charity of your choice.
