Albert Arnold Kunz, a kind and gentle soul, passed away on May 31, 2018. His happy and smiling spirit is no longer constrained by Parkinson’s and dementia. Arnold was born on December 13, 1935 to Sarah “Sadie” Hill Poppleton and Milford H Kunz. He struggled with a disability that didn’t allow him to read or write, but that didn’t stop him from excelling beyond the skills he had. He worked for the Utah Department of Transportation and loved plowing snow. His greatest joy was to figure out how to fix anything that was broke and he spent a lifetime working on engines and mowers. He acquired many friends and customers running A & K Repair and was known as the lawn mower man.
Arnold married twice, his first union producing three children. His oldest Randy was always there to spend time with his dad, bring him a treat and have a cup of coffee. His second union produced a daughter and he adopted his new wife, Karen’s daughter. Arnold and Karen remained married for 52 years with her standing by his side and supporting him in doing the things he was able to. She took care of him in life and during his prolonged illness. She loved him enough to place him into specialized care where his life was enriched with the love and compassion of caregivers who couldn’t resist his sweet and teasing ways.
He enjoyed many trips with friends and family to collect antiques, attend auctions and see the country. His last trip may have been the most fantastic. We’ll have to ask him when we get there. He loved a cup of coffee and anything sweet.
