Steven Charles Whipple, “Whip”, 64, formerly of Canadian, Texas, died in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on May 24, 2018. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church in Canadian, Texas with Rev. Donald Hill officiating. Burial will follow at the Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery. Services and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian, Texas.
Steve was born in Canadian, Texas on November 3, 1953, to Virginia Morehead Whipple. He went to school in Canadian, Texas and graduated from Canadian High School in 1972. Steve attended Panhandle State University and took classes in theology at a private Christian college. He was raised and baptized in the First United Methodist Church of Canadian. Steve was passionate about studying history and family genealogy. He loved music, his taste ranging from the Beatles to the classic country music of George Jones and Johnny Cash. One of the items on Steve’s bucket list was to go to Disney World and his long-time friend Christy Jones Drake helped him accomplish that goal this last year. Steve’s doctors were amazed at his will to live and the outpouring of support from his family and friends. He was known and loved for his kind and giving spirit.
Survivors include his sisters Toni Jolly and husband Tim of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Wendy Layton of Bisbee, Arizona, and Clayette Arendarczyk and husband Dennis of Huntington Beach, California. He is survived by a nephew Jason Watson and wife Carla, and his nieces Taylor Stone and husband Michael and Sydney Arendarczyk along with his great nieces and nephews Cierra Watson, Cara Watson, Cora Watson, Jayden Watson, Jace Watson and Jaxton Watson. Steve was preceded in death by his mom, Virginia Whipple who passed away in 1991.
