COTTONDALE - L D Barger, age 86 years, went to be with his Lord and Savior May 19, 2018, at his residence. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at Old Salem Baptist Church, where his body will lie-in-state at the church from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. Rev. Chad Lowery, Bro. Chuck Weaver, and Bro. Jason Turner will officiate. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, May 21, 2018 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Tuscaloosa Memorial Park and Chapel will be directing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Lewis and Savannah Barger; wife, Ann West Barger; children, Rev. Larry Barger and Kim Barger; sister, Hazel Brewer; brother, Marvin Barger; and grandson, Dustin Cole.
Mr. Barger is survived by his wife, Annette Barger; daughter-in-law, Jan Barger; daughter, Robyn Gregg; sons, Jeff Gregg (Dianne) and Chris Gregg (Aracely); grandchildren, Kimberli Fondren (Steven), Heather O'Bryant (Chad), and Cody Lesperance (Trena); great-grandchildren, Olivia Fondren, Braden Fondren, Liam O'Bryant, Jack O'Bryant, Baby Boy O'Bryant, Gabriella Lesperance, and Benson Lesperance; sisters, Ruth Stokes and Shirley Cook (Robert); brothers, Matt Barger and Samuel Boswell (Billy Ruth); and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was a member of and loved Old Salem Baptist Church and the people. He served the Lord there in many positions through the years. Before retiring, he was part owner of Barger, Turner Waterproofing, Inc. He loved family, Alabama football, and growing tomatoes.
Pallbearers will be Chad O'Bryant, Steven Fondren, Bruce Smelley, Jimmy Green, Jeff Gregg, Chris Gregg, Cody Lesperance, and Douglas Gregg.
Honorary pallbearers are Bobby Tubbs and Jessie James.
